TICAL 2024 will be the venue for cutting-edge conferences and international experts

From December 5–8, TICAL 2024, under the theme "Connecting Knowledge: AI and Data as Catalysts for Academic and Social Transformation," will offer a rich and valuable program of lectures, round tables, and panels. Organized by RedCLARA and the BELLA II Project with the support of Brazil's advanced network, RNP, this event will serve as a key platform to address the challenges and advancements the region faces in crucial areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), e-health, open science, sustainability, and cybersecurity.

TICAL 2024 will bring together renowned international experts who will share their insights on emerging trends transforming the digital, academic, and research ecosystems in Latin America and the Caribbean. The lectures will focus on the transformation of key sectors such as health, education, and digital infrastructures. Additionally, the conference will discuss the growing importance of cybersecurity and the development of cross-border digital infrastructure, essential for fostering regional collaboration and ensuring secure and sustainable access to technology.

This event will be a unique opportunity to debate the future of digitization in the region, highlighting artificial intelligence as a key driver of innovation in education, research, and health.

Among the specialists contributing their knowledge will be Dr. Seiji Isotani, Full Professor of Computing at the University of São Paulo and President of the International Society for Artificial Intelligence in Education, who will present a lecture on the impact of artificial intelligence in education. Prof. Ulises Cortés, a professor and researcher at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and a researcher at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, will deliver the closing lecture on the advances in artificial intelligence and its implications for higher education.

The sessions will address fundamental topics such as data protection and cybersecurity in the educational field, as well as the creation of inclusive digital solutions to promote equitable access to education and research.

The sessions will include participation from international experts who will serve as moderators and panelists in round tables and discussions. These experts come from various prestigious institutions and National Research and Education Networks (NRENs), including REUNA (Chile), REMERI (Mexico), IBICT (Brazil), INPE (Brazil), GÉANT (pan-European advanced network), and RNP (Brazil), among others.

In line with the objectives of the EU-LAC Digital Alliance and the the BELLA II project led by RedCLARA, TICAL provides a forum for strategic dialogue and exchange of experiences among the NRENs members of RedCLARA on strengthening regional science, technology, and innovation; promotes the identification of common challenges and opportunities of digital transformation for the economic and social development of Latin America and the Caribbean, and seeks to identify the cornerstones for building a common development agenda based on digital.
