Seiji Isotani

Full Professor of Computing at the University of São Paulo, Researcher at Harvard University, and President of the International Society for Artificial Intelligence in Education.

Dr. Seiji Isotani is a Full Professor of Computing at the University of São Paulo, an Associate Researcher at Harvard University, and the President-Elect of the International Society for Artificial Intelligence in Education (https://iaied.org/about/). With a PhD in Artificial Intelligence in Education from Osaka University and a postdoc in Cognitive Science from Carnegie Mellon University, Seiji has made significant contributions to the fields of AI in Education, Learning Gamification, and Educational Technologies. He pioneered the study of motivation in gamified intelligent learning environments and helped define a methodology known as "AIED Unplugged," which brings the benefits of AI to thousands of students in underserved regions of Brazil. He is one of the founders of NEES - Center of Excellence in Social Technologies, a center responsible for supporting the design and implementation of various national educational public policies, including setting Computing standards for K-12 education in Brazil's National Common Core Curriculum (BNCC). Professor Seiji is listed among the top 20 most cited researchers worldwide in his fields.

In line with the objectives of the EU-LAC Digital Alliance and the the BELLA II project led by RedCLARA, TICAL provides a forum for strategic dialogue and exchange of experiences among the NRENs members of RedCLARA on strengthening regional science, technology, and innovation; promotes the identification of common challenges and opportunities of digital transformation for the economic and social development of Latin America and the Caribbean, and seeks to identify the cornerstones for building a common development agenda based on digital.
